The sages of India developed the healing systems of Yoga and Ayurveda 6000 years ago. Together these two ancient sciences provide individuals with the keys to regulating their biological expression. Ayurveda is the science of longevity, vitality and healing while Yoga guides the mind, body and breath into one moment of shared awareness. The depth and breath of these twin sciences offer us great power over our conditions. Take mudras (hand gestures) or pranayama (breathing practices) for instance, with their specific applications one can regulate circulation, respiration, digestion, elimination, and the stress response. For this reason I teach and counsel individuals and groups to support their discovery of just how good they can actual feel. We have great power to affect our health.
Ayurveda’s philosophy recognizes five elementals that combine in three dynamic biological forces that govern life called Doshas.
Kapha Dosha, the combination of earth and water protect and stabilize the body and provide immunity and resilience.
Pitta Dosha, the combination of water and fire provide the heat, light, and fluidity and governs metabolism
Vata Dosha, the combination of air and space generates all movement: nerve impulses, heart rate, respiration, elimination, and governs the nervous system.
These doshas govern the physical, mental and spiritual functions of life. Ayurveda suggests that our best health can only be experienced when we understand how our actions and environment and lifestyle influence our biological expression. As the truth of this ancient wisdom awakens in each student the process is transforming and naturally causing a new focus on self-care and self-love.
Ayurveda and Yoga Study Groups introduce the philosophy and practice of this wisdom to everyone. From the beginner to the advanced yogi, students learn to incorporate the tri-doshic principles of Ayurvedic in their lives and practice cultivated greater awareness of their vital nature.
